WHY DO DOGS HOWL, HOWLING OF THE WILD!

WHY DO DOGS HOWL,

HOWLING OF THE WILD!

Dogs are very sensitive animals. They respond to actions, emotions and even slight change in environment. We often think them to be highly reactive/active if they are responsive. On the other hand we think that they are lazy if they do not show reaction to any stimulus. Dogs bite, howl and aggressively bark, when they are angry or sense any danger. Similarly they wag their tail, come close to you or even start licking to show their love and affection. But the problem starts when they start howling at the middle of the night or even when there is daylight. THEN WE ASK OURSELVES , WHY DO DOGS HOWL ? You may not be able to find a proper reason behind it, but there is always a motive , reason or cause for such an action of theirs….lets delve into them one by one.

1. Communication with the similar kind

You might have observed that your dog starts howling when it hears other dogs doing the same. It is their natural tendency, a way to communicate or show of their presence. They are quite similar to the pack of wolves , which we often refer to howling of the wild. It is very difficult to stop them as it is inherent and may require training to reinforce not to do so , no reaction to such howling of other dogs.

2. Missing the master

The dogs do have a way to express sorrow and sad feeling of separation. Your dog might howl in your absence which you might be aware of. This generally happens when you are away from them for a long period and they start missing you. They even stop eating and neighbors start to hear howling of the wild. It’s just a way to show that your dog misses you.

3. Physical pain

Howling may also be a sign of pain due to injury which your dog wants to show you. You may have missed it out or overlooked it. This is a way to seek your attention toward the pain it is going through. Do not over look such signs , as such pain might be even internal. Consult a doctor if you observe such behavior but no external injury on the dog.

4. Presence of ghost or spirits

People often say that dogs can see spirits. They howl when they see one. But it has never been confirmed as of date. Such activities or ideas are generally presented in the movies which are of horror genre. On a lighter note, no dog has ever confirmed it to be true or given approval to such theory…..hahaha. But do take care of your self and your dog….because a healthy dog requires a healthy master.
